Synopsis from Goodreads:
What boundaries would you cross for love?
That's the question a grieving mother must answer when she takes in her dead daughter's young boyfriend and finds herself falling for him. A touching love story that will have you equally tantalized and in tears, Jane's Melody follows a forty-year-old woman on a romantic journey of rediscovery after years of struggling alone.
Sometimes our greatest gifts come from our greatest pain. And now Jane must decide if it's too late for her to start over, or if true love really knows no age.
Jane's Melody is an adult romance novel and may not be suitable for younger readers due to sexual content.
My Thoughts...
Ok, this is a new thing for me! As you can see by the title of the post this is a re-review post. Basically that means that I am reviewing the book for the second time. There are a variety of reasons why one might choose to do this, but here is my reason. When I read this book the first time it was just after it was released semi-independently. Since that time Atria has picked it up and re-published it. I was offered a copy to review and I was quick to say yes! I loved the book the first time and always knew it would be something I would read again and I was definitely curious to see what changes, if any, were made when they got ahold of it. If you haven't already read my first review and you would like to you can find that here.
When I read this book the first time there were a couple of spots that stood out to me and I wondered how the new editors would handle them. I think that they did a fantastic job, this second time through was so smooth. The changes were so subtle but I felt like they enhanced the story that much more. It's not even something I can even explain, it was just words here and there that struck me weird, but those spots were gone this time. I think that I paid more attention to the detail this time around and the story has such a lyrical quality to it. Caleb's thoughts are beautiful and it made me love his character even more.
I am not going to talk too much about the story here since I did that in my original review. I will say, though, that if you haven't read this book you really need to pick it up. At it's heart this story is about learning to love even when that love isn't what you expected. It's about being happy just living your life instead of worrying about how others around you will feel about it. It's about loss and coping with all the feelings of regret but also the realization that you can't change the past so you have to find a way to live in the now.
I love the characters in this book, they feel very real to me and I am so happy that Ryan is getting the chance to give us more of Caleb and Jane's story. I am so excited to see where the next book takes them. I have said it before and I will keep saying it, I think that Romance is his genre and this is definitely my favorite of his books. So, go buy this book and read it...then come back and let me know what you thought about it because I would love to hear your thoughts!!
XOXO, Shelly
