Synopsis from Goodreads:
Some things are worth waiting for…
Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.
Some things are worth experiencing…
Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his
charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lick-able. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.
Some things should never be kept quiet…
But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing
her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?
And some things are worth fighting for…
My Thoughts...
This is an excellent New Adult offering by Jennifer L. Armentrout writing as J. Lynn. I am not sure why the name change for this book, but it's still the same quality of writing that I have come to know and love from Ms. Armentrout so the name is irrelevant! I read this book in just a few hours, once I started I didn't want to put it down and I just happened to have a nice snow day to read.
Avery is running away from her old life and something tragic that happened to her 5 years ago. She has left everything behind including a family that put their reputation above the needs of their 14 year old daughter. She has moved across the country on her own to attend college. Avery will find out that it's not not always so easy to cut ties with your past.
Cameron is tall, smart and sexy as hell. He is the "hot guy" on campus that all the girls want. Avery literally runs him over on her way to her first class and from that moment he only has eyes for her. They find out soon that they live across the hall from each other. Avery is determined that she isn't going to date him and he is equally determined that she is! They have a relationship that develops slowly over months, but those are usually the best kind. They are kind of a slow burn and when they do finally come to their senses it's just that mush more explosive! He cooks breakfast for her every weekend, bakes her cookies and asks her out nearly every day. He is pretty much perfect.
Avery feels like she isn't worthy of someone like Cameron and she is definitely less than forthcoming with him. They have their fair share of heartache and angst throughout the course of the story. They both realize that they have something worth fighting for and it's really a beautiful love story.
There are some minor spelling errors and stuff like that. The storyline isn't completely original, but I have read so many NA books lately that there is bound to be some crossover. It's still a great story and Ms. Armentrout always does a really great job with character development and this story is no exception. Cameron is one of my favorite NA book characters without a doubt. I also really liked the minor characters so I am hoping some of them may get their own books someday...
If you liked books like Easy, Hopeless and Beautiful Disaster then you will probably like this one. If you are a fan of Jennifer's other work then you definitely will want to read it! This is New Adult so there are some tastefully written love scenes.
Thanks for the review, Shelly! I've been wondering about this book. I had planned to title a future book, 'wait for you,' so I was kinda disappointed when I noticed this book. Oh well, haven't written it yet, so it doesn't matter! I enjoyed Easy and Hopeless, so this looks like a book I would enjoy!
