Synopsis from Goodreads:

The ever-after, the demonic realm that parallels our own, is shrinking, and if it disappears, so does all magic. It's up to witch-turned-daywalking-demon Rachel Morgan to fix the ever-after before the fragile balance between magic users and humans falls apart.

Of course, there's also the small fact that Rachel is the one who caused the ley line to rip in the first place, and her life is forfeit unless she can fix it. Not to mention the most powerful demon in the ever-after—the soul-eater Ku'Sox Sha-Ku'ru—has vowed to destroy her, and has kidnapped her friend and her goddaughter as leverage. If Rachel doesn't give herself up, they will die.

Forced by circumstance, Rachel teams up with elven tycoon Trent Kalamack—a partnership fraught with dangers of the heart as well as betrayal of the soul—to return to the ever-after and rescue those she loves. One world teeters on the brink of interspecies war, the other on the brink of its very demise—and it's up to Rachel to keep them both from being destroyed.
My Thoughts...
This is going to be a really quick review, partly because it took me so darn long to read this book!  Also, since it's the 11th book in this series it's one of those that if you haven't read the first 10 books you probably won't appreciate me going into too much depth.

I really do love this series, but we are 11 books in and the connection between Rachel and Trent has now been dragged out for 3 books or so and it's getting to the point where they just need to hook up and get it over with! This is one of those series that is mostly about the magic and not so much about romance so if you want a good supernatural / paranormal series where the main focus isn't romance then you will like this one.  There is usually a little bit of romance in each book, but not much at all.

I love Trent, I have since the beginning and I love how he has grown throughout the series and he really is starting to live up to his potential.  I also really really love Al, he is one of those characters that you can't help but like even though for most of the series he is supposed to be the "bad guy".  He is evolving, like Trent, over the course of the story and after all these books we are starting to get a little taste of who he really is.  Rachel is Rachel, she's always kind of the same in all the books.  She gets more powerful as the series progresses and in this one she is pretty bad ass even while wearing her mothers old white leisure pants and vest!

Ivy is just a bit player in this book, but we get to see a lot of Quen, Jenks and Bis who is becoming my favorite of all Rachel's side-kicks.  There is some happy and some sad and some things you won't believe are really happening.  This was probably the best book of the series and I can't wait to see what the next installment brings for everyone, but most especially Rachel and Trent.

Ms. Harrison is a fabulous storyteller, no doubt.  If you haven't picked up this series then I highly recommend it.  Especially if you like a series that has a good amount of books already published.

  1. I didn't realize this was out. I'm seriously considering buying it for my Kindle, but not quite yet. They are selling it at almost hard cover prices, but they have gone down to a price point where I was buying them.

I love the series and enjoy the author. I'll be reading it, but not quite yet.
