Synopsis from Goodreads:

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…
Diving In...
Ok, Obsidian was good, but Onyx was even better!  This one did take me longer to read, but I started a new job this week so I am still adjusting to that.  It was nice to kind of take my time with this one though, I was able to enjoy Daemon for just a little bit longer!

I know that in my review of Obsidian I mentioned the YA "formula...well, forget about all that in this book. There wasn't a hint of that anywhere.  I loved how Daemon and Katy changed and grew in this book.  They get closer, but Katy is constantly questioning the connection.  Daemon is just, well Daemon.  He's sexy, broody, all those things we already love about him, but so much more!

There isn't as much Dee in this book as in the last one, but she does have a pretty important story line weaving in and out of the main one.  We also meet a new character Blake and we get introduced to Will, the guy that Katy's mom is dating.  I like that even though they are dealing with the DOD, they are learning more about themselves and what their powers and limitations are.  There is a lot of information in this book about what is happening with Katy, and this group of Luxen are just learning what it is that actually happens when they heal a human.

There are some great twists and turns in this one, some I didn't see coming and some I did.  The best thing about this book is that Katy starts to kick some serious ass.  She is learning just what exactly it is that Daemon did when he healed her in the last book and I think that we are just seeing a tiny portion of what she is capable of becoming.  Katy and Damon are truly the power couple, we are going to be seeing great things from them in the next book.

Overall, I loved this book.  This is a series that I will read again for sure!  I will be eagerly waiting for December to get here so I can read the next book.

Content Concerns:
*not much profanity, about what you usually see in a Mature YA
*Some nice steamy make-out scenes

  1. I just finished Onyx on Friday. I was surprised by it- in a good way. It wasn't what I was expecting. The author started a story arc that was unexpected. (At least by me) I love when an author can surprise you. I can't wait for book 3 in this series.
