Synopsis from Goodreads
When Jacqueline follows her longtime boyfriend to the college of his choice, the last thing she expects is a breakup. After two weeks in shock, she wakes up to her new reality: she’s single, attending a state university instead of a music conservatory, ignored by her former circle of friends, stalked by her ex’s frat brother, and failing a class for the first time in her life.Diving In...
Her econ professor gives her an email address for Landon, the class tutor, who shows her that she’s still the same intelligent girl she’s always been. As Jacqueline becomes interested in more from her tutor than a better grade, his teasing responses make the feeling seem mutual. There’s just one problem—their only interactions are through email.
Meanwhile, a guy in her econ class proves his worth the first night she meets him. Nothing like her popular ex or her brainy tutor, Lucas sits on the back row, sketching in a notebook and staring at her. At a downtown club, he disappears after several dances that leave her on fire. When he asks if he can sketch her, alone in her room, she agrees—hoping for more.
Then Jacqueline discovers a withheld connection between her supportive tutor and her seductive classmate, her ex comes back into the picture, and her stalker escalates his attention by spreading rumors that they’ve hooked up. Suddenly appearances are everything, and knowing who to trust is anything but easy.
In an effort not to post any spoilers about the book, I am going to keep my remarks pretty short. This is a pretty short book, for me at least, it was a quick read. I was sucked in immediately and I read it in a relatively short amount of time. This is a genre that is quickly becoming a favorite for me, and I know some of the girls in my reading group are really enjoying these college romances as well.
I was immediately drawn to Lucas, from the moment he enters Jacqueline's life. He is sexy, tattooed an artist and SO much more. I, however, don't love him on the cover image. I prefer to think that Tyler Blackburn is Lucas! He was in my mind from the moment I read his description!
I think that Ms. Webber did an excellent job with her character development and I like the little twists and turns that the story takes. I think she did a great job with the minor characters in the story too. There is the jerk ex, the creepy stalker boy, supportive best friend, then there is Jacqueline's unseen Econ. tutor Landon.
There are obviously some pretty major obstacles that they have to overcome. Lucas has some things in his past that he isn't ready to share and Jackie is still kinda working through feelings she has about her ex. She is also trying to dispel the rumors that one of his Frat brothers is spreading about her. There are forces at work trying to keep them apart. They both have major trust issues as well that they need to work out so that they can be together.
I can honestly say that I was very pleased with this whole book. I think that Ms. Webber has a very promising future and I know that I will read more of her books without question. This was probably one of the best self published books I have read. It was very well edited and overall just a good book. You can tell that she took some time to get it just right.
This is classified as a Mature YA book. It has some underage drinking, love scenes, an assault scene, language.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys YA / College Romance or Contemporary Romance. I would also read this book again!
Rating 8/10
