My Very First Book Giveaway!!

I have been working hard this week to get the word out there about this blog!  I have been meeting fun people who also have review blogs and it's really fun to see what all is going on out there.  I have been wanting to do a book giveaway since I started this blog so I am just going to do it!  I don't have anything from a publisher to giveaway since I am so new to the review blogging thing, but the day will come when I will have cool things to giveaway so I am going to call this a trail run.  What is so fun about this one, for me anyway, is that since I am providing the book I get to choose whatever I want!

I was looking through my Goodreads list of "read" books and this one popped out at me and I just knew it was the one.  It's especially good since the 2nd book in the series comes out in just a couple weeks.  I have read this book twice now, and I loved it each time!  It's A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness.

Here is the synopsis from Goodreads

A richly inventive novel about a centuries-old vampire, a spellbound witch, and the mysterious manuscript that draws them together.

Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library. Diana has stumbled upon a coveted treasure lost for centuries-and she is the only creature who can break its spell.

Debut novelist Deborah Harkness has crafted a mesmerizing and addictive read, equal parts history and magic, romance and suspense. Diana is a bold heroine who meets her equal in vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont, and gradually warms up to him as their alliance deepens into an intimacy that violates age-old taboos. This smart, sophisticated story harks back to the novels of Anne Rice, but it is as contemporary and sensual as the Twilight series-with an extra serving of historical realism.

I am going to run the giveaway for a week, and if you are the winner you will be given the choice of receiving the book in Paperback or Kindle format.

  5. I wasn't mesmerized by the first book A Discovery Of Witches. I thought the pace was slow and I couldn't fall in love with the two main characters. I'd like to read the next one though because i love the way the author has depicted Oxford and the college life... Thanks for the review
