Diving in...
This was actually my favorite of this series. As far as the story goes, it was the best one. She set up part of the story in the 2nd book with the corruption of the Carnal Police Department. Tyrell Walker is just getting out of prison at the beginning and he is a handful right from the start. He was done wrong by a woman, has been wrongfully incarcerated for five years and this contributes to his distaste of women. He is vulgar and speaks very derogatorily about women for the entire span of the book. Lexie is awesome from the very beginning! She has no idea what she is getting herself into when she picks Ty up from prison as a "favor" for someone. I hesitate to call him a friend for very obvious reasons because I don't want to give any plot away. Lexie has had a rough life from the very beginning, but she has overcome some pretty rough obstacles and is a genuinely good person despite her background.
They eventually make their way from California to Carnal where Ty goes to work trying to clear his name. This brings Tate back into the picture as well as all my favorite characters from Sweet Dreams. Like with Max and Tate, Ty does some really despicable things, but he always seems to redeem himself in the end. I know other reviewers thought that this book had less romance in it, but I didn't think it did. I think that it just had a little more substance than the other books maybe. There was more going on that just the romance, to be sure. Part of it may be that Ty doesn't come off as much of a romantic because of the way he thinks of and speaks about women. It was pretty crass most of the time and kind of off-putting and I don't think that he can really blame prison or the fact that he was "screwed over" by a woman. It's almost irredeemable, but he does love Lexie and that shows pretty early on even though she doesn't see it most of the time.
As with the other 2 books this one has the same editing stuff going on so I am not going to even mention those at this point! This one is not as long though and she starts right off switching POV which I really liked. I just wish that she would let go of the 1st person all together when she does this. She tells Lexie's part of the story in 1st person, but the rest of the characters (mostly Ty) are done in 2nd person. It's not really confusing since she puts who's view it is at the beginning of the sections or chapters, but it's just weird shifting from one POV to another so often. I do thing that it's helpful to tell the story in 2nd person though, it's more interesting especially with this type of story line.
This story also has a more natural progression similar to the last one, it wasn't rushed at all. No matter how Kristen's heroes start out they always seem to make you fall in love with them despite how horrible they seem at times throughout the story. This story also introduces the 2 main characters that will be in the next book, so we will see more of Carnal in at least one more book!
As far as profanity goes, this one was definitely the worst. There are also the super steamy love scenes that I am coming to associate with a Kristen Ashley book!
Again, I would re-read this one for sure, especially since it was my favorite story line so far. I just wouldn't spend as much time trying to make sense of some of the sentences! Another note that I may start making with all my reviews...I tend to associate my main male characters with someone so that I have a picture in my head of what they look like.
